The Hartford Chapter
National Cervical Cancer Coalition – NCCC
The Hartford Chapter of the National Cervical Cancer Coalition was initiated in January, 2014 by cervical cancer survivor Amy Sunshine Rodriguez.
Our mission is to raise awareness of cervical cancer, including but not limited to causes, treatment and prevention while providing a sense of togetherness and support, by offering information, educational seminars, fundraisers and community involvement.
Since the chapter’s start, the Hartford Chapter has run PSA’s on local radio stations, held a successful fundraising “Cut-A-Thon” at the Hair Cuttery in New Britain, participated in the Women’s Expo at the CT Convention center, and the Relay for Life at Rentschler Field, East Hartford, in which Amy was also a host, as well as many other community outreach and educational activities. In October, she was invited to attend the National Sales Meeting in Orlando, for Ho-logic, a women’s healthcare and diagnostics company, as a guest speaker. You can also find a snippet of her story in the Living Well section in the October issue of WebMD magazine “Cervical Cancer: Tips To Stay Healthy After Treatment”.
We plan to continue our growth as a chapter throughout Connecticut and are inviting all cities and towns to recognize January as Cervical Cancer Awareness Month, as well as participation in “Paint The Town Teal”; whereas teal and white bows are tied around local trees and displays of teal are scattered throughout towns and cities to raise cervical cancer awareness and ultimately put an end to this preventable disease!
